Through Imagine Deliver’s work with St. Paul Public Library (SPPL), we learned that overdue fines and book fees prevented people from accessing and returning to the library. We engaged with the community to understand their needs and priorities and shared feedback with SPPL’s leadership. As a result, in 2019, SPPL eliminated fines for over 51,000 residents, making library resources more equitable and accessible. Imagine Deliver is proud to have played a role in this change and has continued to work with SPPL to center community needs in library services.

The Heart of the Beast Puppet and Mask Theatre, which organizes the event, has announced it will take a year off to restructure the parade, making it more inclusive for artists and audiences of color. The parade had become too big to stage on its own. The year-long hiatus is intended to address structural issues, including a history of marginalizing and appropriating artists of color. While this break goes beyond funding, this year’s parade had a net surplus of $50,000, highlighting the event’s popularity. The Heart of the Beast has been working with consulting firm Imagine Deliver to determine how the theater, its signature event, and its home can survive and evolve.
After years of financial losses, the Minneapolis MayDay Parade experienced a record-breaking year. The parade, organized by the Heart of the Beast Theatre, had faced financial difficulties and called upon consulting firm Imagine Deliver and nonprofit Juxtaposition Arts to develop strategies for the theater’s survival, its signature event, and its home, the Avalon Theatre on Lake Street. The success of the 2019 parade reflects the collective efforts of the theater, Imagine Deliver, Juxtaposition Arts, and the broader community to support the arts and celebrate Minneapolis’ diverse culture.
St. Paul Public Library (SPPL) eliminated late fees in 2019, resulting in increased library usage while maintaining a steady overdue rate. The change reflects SPPL’s commitment to making library resources more accessible and equitable for all community members. Imagine Deliver played a role in this change by identifying overdue fees and book fines as barriers for some patrons and helping SPPL to center community needs in its library services.
